IEEE Region 5 Awards recognize the achievements of INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS, SECTIONS, STUDENT BRANCHES, and COMPANIES. The following IEEE Region 5 Awards accept nominations from December 1st to January 31st. 

NOTES: 1. Self-nominations for individual awards will not be considered. 2. Awardees many not receive the same awared within a three (3) year window. e.g. Those nominated for the 2026 award may not have received that award after the awards for the 2023 calendar year, which were awarded at the 2024 R5 Workshop. 3. IMPORTANT: If ENDORSEMENTS are NEEDED, submit by January 15th. To be accepted, endorsements must be received through the portal. The link is sent to the emails you provide.

AWARDS FOR INDIVIDUALS

  • Jim Leonard R5 Outstanding Member Award

This award recognizes an individual IEEE member who has demonstrated exceptional service and dedication at the Section, Region, and/or national IEEE levels. The recipient will have made significant contributions that advance the mission and objectives of IEEE through leadership, volunteerism, and professional engagement. (Two endorsements required.)

  • John Meredith Region 5 Lifetime Achievement Award

This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated sustained and significant service to IEEE Region 5 Committee and IEEE at multiple levels over an extended period. The recipient will have made impactful contributions through leadership, volunteerism, and dedication at multiple organizational levels. (Two endorsements required.)

  • Young Professional Member

This award recognizes Young Professional members who have made significant contributions through impactful projects or achievements completed over a relatively short period (one to three years). These efforts should demonstrate measurable impact and leave a lasting influence on Young Professional activities within Region 5. The award honors individuals who have successfully developed and executed initiatives that advance one or more of the Region’s goals and objectives. Nominees must be active Young Professional members at the time of nomination. (Two endorsements required.)

  • Individual Member Achievement

This award recognizes individuals within Region 5 who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments during the past calendar year. Recipients will have made significant contributions through projects or activities that advance the mission, goals, and objectives of IEEE. Multiple awards may be presented in this category at the discretion of the Awards Committee, with up to five recipients selected annually. (Two endorsements required.)

  • Outstanding Engineering Educator

This award recognizes an IEEE member who has demonstrated exceptional contributions and leadership in the field of engineering education. The recipient will have shown a sustained commitment to advancing education through teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service to students and the engineering profession. (Two endorsements required.)

  • Outstanding Student Branch Counselor

TThis award recognizes a Student Branch Counselor who has demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and support in guiding their Student Branch and advancing the mission and objectives of IEEE. The recipient will have played a key role in fostering student engagement, mentoring future professionals, and strengthening the connection between students and the broader engineering community. (Two endorsements required.)

  • Outstanding Student Member

This award recognizes an undergraduate IEEE student member who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and service through meaningful contributions to their Student Branch, Section, Region, or IEEE at large. The recipient will have actively supported and advanced the mission and principles of IEEE through leadership, participation, and service. Nominees may have graduated; however, they must have been an IEEE student member during the calendar year under consideration.

 

AWARDS FOR SECTIONS, STUDENT BRANCHES, AND COMPANIES

SECTIONS

  • Outstanding Large Section (1501 or more members)

This award recognizes a LARGE SECTION that demonstrates exceptional activity, leadership, and overall performance during the past calendar year. The selected Section will have shown a strong commitment to delivering high-quality programs, fostering member engagement, supporting professional development, and maintaining active collaboration with IEEE organizational units and the broader engineering community. Evaluation is based on the Section’s effectiveness across key areas of: strategic planning, meetings, technical programs including professional activities, continuing education, membership development, collaboration, and innovative initiatives.

  • Outstanding Medium Section (501 to 1500 members)

This award recognizes a MEDIUM SECTION that demonstrates exceptional activity, leadership, and overall performance during the past calendar year. The selected Section will have shown a strong commitment to delivering high-quality programs, fostering member engagement, supporting professional development, and maintaining active collaboration with IEEE organizational units and the broader engineering community. Evaluation is based on the Section’s effectiveness across key areas of: strategic planning, meetings, technical programs including professional activities, continuing education, membership development, collaboration, and innovative initiatives.

  • Outstanding Small Section (500 or fewer members)

This award recognizes a SMALL SECTION that demonstrates exceptional activity, leadership, and overall performance during the past calendar year. The selected Section will have shown a strong commitment to delivering high-quality programs, fostering member engagement, supporting professional development, and maintaining active collaboration with IEEE organizational units and the broader engineering community. Evaluation is based on the Section’s effectiveness across key areas of: strategic planning, meetings, technical programs including professional activities, continuing education, membership development, collaboration, and innovative initiatives.

 

STUDENT BRANCHES

  • Outstanding Large Student Branch (> 50 Members)

This award recognizes a Student Branch that has demonstrated exceptional activity, leadership, and impact during the past calendar year. The selected Student Branch will have shown a strong commitment to delivering high-quality technical and professional programs, fostering student engagement, supporting professional development, and advancing the mission of IEEE. Evaluation considers the breadth and quality of activities, including technical and professional programs, participation in events such as student professional conferences, collaboration with local Sections and other student organizations, and innovative initiatives.

  • Outstanding Small Student Branch (≤50 Members)

This award recognizes a Student Branch that has demonstrated exceptional activity, leadership, and impact during the past calendar year. The selected Student Branch will have shown a strong commitment to delivering high-quality technical and professional programs, fostering student engagement, supporting professional development, and advancing the mission of IEEE. Evaluation considers the breadth and quality of activities, including technical and professional programs, participation in events such as student professional conferences, collaboration with local Sections and other student organizations, and innovative initiatives.

 

COMPANIES

  • Outstanding Large Company (>500 engineering employees)

This award recognizes a company within Region 5 that has demonstrated exceptional support for IEEE, its members, and its mission. The recipient organization will have shown a strong commitment to advancing IEEE objectives through active engagement at the Section, Region, and/or broader IEEE levels, as well as by encouraging employee participation in professional activities.

  • Outstanding Small Company (≤500 engineering employees)

This award recognizes a company within Region 5 that has demonstrated exceptional support for IEEE, its members, and its mission. The recipient organization will have shown a strong commitment to advancing IEEE objectives through active engagement at the Section, Region, and/or broader IEEE levels, as well as by encouraging employee participation in professional activities.
